JOURNALISM EXPERIENCE

The Annapolis Capital, October 2005 to present. Free-lance writer for the neighborhood section, covering community events and local persons of interest for this 50,000-circulation daily in Annapolis, Md.

The Terrapin Times September 2005 to December 2005. Contributing writer for the news and feature sections for this monthly newspaper at the University of Maryland that focuses on politics and current events.

Unwind Magazine September 2005 through December 2005. Contributing writer for the health and fitness and feature sections for this monthly leisure and entertainment magazine published by University of Maryland students.

 

ACTIVITIES and AWARDS

University of Maryland Competitive Cheerleading, August 2002 to April 2006. Team won 2006 Division I National Championship in April.  Balanced 20 hours a week of practice and competition with being a full-time student. Competed in 12 national and regional competitions each year. Participated in community service activities.

Terrapin Leadership Award, 2003 and 2004. An all-around award that is presented to the team member who embodies the skill, leadership and character qualitites of the ideal Maryland cheerleader. Most prestigious team award because the winner is determined by team and coach votes.

Atlantic Coast Conference Scholar Athlete, 2004 and 2005. Student athlete honor roll for individuals who are full-time students, maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and participate in a varsity sport.

Varsity Letter Winner, 2003 to 2006. Awarded by the University of Maryland for the completion of a full year on a varsity team.

 

OTHER WORK EXPERIENCE

Rainforest Café, Towson, Md., May 2004 to September 2005

  • Wait staff, trained new employees
  • Gained strong customer service skills

    Rebounders Gymnastics, Timonium, Md., May 2005 to September 2005
  • Designed and instructed all cheerleading classes offered in this gymnastics facility
  • Instructed group and private lessons, ages 6 to 18

    Spirit Unlimited, Gambrills, Md., May 2002 to June 2005
  • Cheer and dance company that sends staff members to different sites to instruct camps, ages 5 to 18
  • Camp director, supervised and evaluated staff in addition to coaching camps
  • Responsible for resolving any staff, camper or parental concerns
